Our experience in Naxos
While living in Greece for a couple of months, Naxos quickly became one of our favorite islands. It offers an ideal mix of beaches, archaeological sites, great food, and a mountainous interior, all within easy reach of each other.
We spent much of our time exploring the beaches around Naxos, especially along the east coast. Highlights included Agia Anna, Plaka Beach, Alyko Beach, Mikri Vigla Beach, Maragkas Beach, Agios Prokopios, Agios Georgios, and the more secluded Hawaii Beach. From long sandy beaches to quieter, undeveloped spots, Naxos has options for every travel style.
Naxos is also one of the most historically rich islands in the Cyclades. Standout sites include the Temple of Apollo (Portara), Zeus’ Cave, the Temple of Demeter, Yria of Naxos, and the Tower of Ayia, all of which are easy to visit while exploring the island.
Away from the coast, the mountain villages of Chalki and Sifones offer a break from the summer crowds and heat. For travelers who enjoy hiking, summiting Mount Zas—the highest point in the Cyclades—is a rewarding experience with panoramic views across the island.
Whether you’re here for beaches, history, hiking, or food, it’s easy to plan a well-rounded trip without constantly moving around. The guides below are designed to help you plan your Naxos trip with practical tips, our favorite spots, and honest recommendations so you can make the most of your time on the island.
